When not in use, it folds small enough for the side pocket of a suitcase, a larger backpack or a scooter seat compartment. Its typical role is the second pack on a multi-day trek: the main pack stays at camp, and the Packable YZ13 comes along for summit day or a short leg. It also works as a spare bag kept in the suitcase for things picked up along the way.
A strap that threads through the zipper pulls offers simple but effective theft protection. Once the strap is threaded through, the zipper cannot be opened with one quick move, which helps in crowds, bus stations and tourist markets. The sternum strap slides up and down instead of being fixed in one spot, keeping the pack in place on steep climbs and fitting a wider range of body types.
The fabric is water-resistant PU-coated polyester ripstop. The ripstop weave matters on a packable bag, because thin fabric snags more easily than heavy fabric.
